200+ candidates taking Certificate in Humanitarian Logistics

May 24th, 2007 | By: Martin Arrand

I’ve mentioned before (here and here) the Certificate in Humanitarian Logistics – a qualification for field logisticians designed by CILT for the Fritz Institute.

At a meeting of the steering group of CILT’s Humanitarian & Emergencies Logistics Professionals (HELP) Forum, Bernard Auton mentioned in passing that there are now over 200 candidates taking the course. Most of these are from the developing world, and many of them are funding themselves for the qualification. This is very positive news: when practitioners take their development so seriously it bodes very well for the standard and standing of the profession.

Martin – thanks for the pointers to the recent developments in humanitarian logistics. The CILT has already built a good reputation in the sector, and it seems that supporting tools that humlog professionals need are also starting to appear. I have just blogged about a couple of developments at humanitarian.info – on the new Helios logistics software and the UNSDI database schema for transport.

Thanks for the contribution, Paul. I’ve tidied up the links in your comment as they came out a little ugly with my current site design.

I’m trying to make more time to do some more work for CILT’s HELP Forum at the moment, mainly around training but I also have a remit to foster online communication in the community and to publicise the group’s work (so thanks for pointing people in that direction).

I have a few friends at Oxfam so I’ll try and find out where they are with Helios.
