BBC News online – special on Lean in automotive
Last week BBC News online ran a series of feature articles on globalisation, part 2 of which focussed on Lean in the US automotive sector.
No surprise that Toyota featured heavily, but there was also coverage of GM’s successful programme to improve productivity through Lean manufacturing methods.
The article also quotes Jim Womack (co-author with Dan Jones of The Machine That Changed The World and Lean Thinking) who says:
GM has caught up on assembly plants, but Toyota is still ahead on suppliers, product development and a problem-solving approach to issues
All in all, some fairly clear and sensible coverage of Lean from the mainstream media.
